Jatinegara, located in East Jakarta which consists of 28% of Jakarta’s population, is one of the most crowded areas in city. Typically a crowded settlement, this results in a variety of environmental and health issues due to overcrowding and unhygienic living conditions. Due to it’s location, Jatinegara is also vulnerable to natural disasters, most particularly, flooding. Such as the one happening in 2007, which affected many lives. Wahana Visi’s work currently impacts 4 out of 7 villages in the sub-district. Their programs focus on child, youth, and economic development. During this Impact Trip you’ll visit and hold discussions with the community led social enterprise, as well as the children development program committee.
Penjaringan is a coastal district of North Jakarta. Issues facing the communities of Penjaringan are those of hygiene and drug abuse. Due to rampant drug abuse, HIV and AIDS in the district is also on the rise. Clean water and sanitation is also a prevalent issue in the communities, as many are forced to consume ground water if they are unable to afford bottled water. Wahana Visi’s projects cover 2 out of 5 districts in Penjaringan. Their programs focus on child, youth, and economic development, as well as sanitation. During this Impact Trip you’ll visit and hold discussions with the community led business, as well as meet the community stakeholders.
